Thank you for your interest in 10th Ivanhoe Scout Group. We are delighted that your family is considering joining Scouting—the world’s largest youth movement.
Our Group welcomes young people into the following sections:
• Joey Scouts: 5–8 years (five-year-olds must be attending school)
• Cub Scouts: 8–11 years
• Scouts: 11–14 years
• Venturer Scouts: 14–18 years
• Rover Scouts: 18–25 years
Age ranges are a general guide. Section transitions may take into account the young person’s development and individual circumstances.

All regular meetings are held at our historic Scout Hall at 8A Wallace Street, Ivanhoe.

Once we have received your child’s VicScouts online trial registration, they may attend up to three trial nights. This gives your child the opportunity to experience the program, meet the other young people and decide whether Scouting feels right for them. It also gives leaders time to understand how best to welcome and support your child.
There is no obligation to join during the trial period, and membership fees will not be invoiced until you decide to proceed with registration. If your child would like to join before completing all three trial nights, please speak with their Unit Leader.
For the first trial night, please arrive about 10 minutes before the meeting so that you and your child can meet the leaders. A parent or carer should remain for the first session. The Unit Leader will let you know whether you need to stay for any further trial nights.
Health, wellbeing and individual support
Health, wellbeing and individual support
Please tell your child’s Unit Leader before their first night about any medical conditions, allergies, medications, disabilities, additional needs, sensory needs or behavioural support strategies that may affect their participation. Keeping this information current helps us provide a safe, inclusive and enjoyable program.
10th Ivanhoe Scout Group is committed to child safety. Bullying, discriminatory behaviour and inappropriate language are not accepted. Please speak privately with a leader if you have any concerns about your child’s safety or wellbeing.
After the trial period, families will be asked to complete a profile on the Scout Health website https://scouthealth.com.au/ as part of their membership registration.

Becoming a member and fees
If your child chooses to join, their registration will proceed once the required forms have been completed and the applicable fees have been paid.
Annual fees help cover Scouts Victoria membership and insurance, as well as the costs of operating the Group and delivering the program. Fees may be adjusted depending on when a young person joins. A one-off Group joining fee may also apply for initial items such as the scarf and membership badges.

Uniform and footwear
Once registered, members are expected to wear the appropriate Scout uniform shirt to weekly meetings and to nominated events and camps. Uniform shirts can be purchased from The Scout Shop at www.thescoutshop.com.au. There may also be some second hand uniforms available to purchase through the group.
When your child is invested, the Group will present them with their scarf and the relevant membership badges.
Enclosed footwear must be worn at all regular meetings and Scouting activities unless leaders specifically advise otherwise—for example, for an activity at a swimming pool.
Program and Achievement Pathways
Program and Achievement Pathways
Each Unit develops its program with input from the young people. The term program will be shared with families at or near the beginning of each term.
Scouts take part in a broad range of activities, including outdoor adventures, camps, community involvement, practical skills and personal challenges. Through the Achievement Pathways, young people can work towards badges and personal goals at their own pace. Camping and outdoor activities are an important part of the Scouting program.
Parent and carer involvement
Parent and carer involvement
10th Ivanhoe Scout Group is run entirely by volunteers. Every family is asked to contribute to the Group in a way that suits their skills and availability. Opportunities may include:
• becoming a Leader, Adult Supporter, Contributor or Group Committee member
• helping with activities, camps or approved transport
• assisting with equipment, hall or grounds maintenance
• supporting fundraising, communications or special events
• sharing a professional skill, hobby or interest with the young people
All families are also expected to assist with the Group’s annual Christmas tree fundraiser. Further details and rosters will be provided closer to the event.
Some volunteer roles require registration, a valid Working with Children Check and a National Police Check before the person can assist. Leaders will explain the requirements for the role you are considering. Please do not transport young people other than your own on behalf of the Group unless the relevant approval and safety requirements have been confirmed.
Child-safe volunteers
Our registered adult volunteers complete the screening and training required for their roles, including Working with Children and National Police checks where applicable. Leaders also complete mandatory child-safety training. First-aid-qualified adults are available as required for activities and events.
Staying informed
Staying informed
Unit Leaders will explain how families receive program information, permission requests, reminders and urgent updates. They will also provide the relevant WhatsApp invitation link or QR code which is currently the main form of communication.
Please ensure that at least one parent or carer regularly checks the Group’s communications and keeps their contact details current along with a 'tag' of who's parents they are and their role.
